Gallery Katzenellenbogen is the collaborative effort of Samuel Ace and Margo Donaldson. Iconoclastic, bold and irreverent, the gallery focuses on contemporary photography, singular objects, outsider art, mid-century pottery, jewelry and furniture.

Ace/Donaldson recently exhibited photographs of items collected at swap meets throughout the Southwest and related text as part of their installation for the New Mexico State University Art Gallery Regional Invitational. Entitled, The Husband Chair, the photographs are a meditation on passionate collecting, attachment and loss.

Another recent exhibit, The Floating World , consisted of text and photographs of the Coney Island amusement park, observers of modern art, and text regarding the Japanese woodblock print (Ukiyo-e ), as a form of mass-produced art similar to the digital photograph, the dissolution of the self, and the pleasure and sadness contained in the pursuit of amusement.

Currently, the Gallery has mounted a retrospective which includes pieces from The Husband Chair, The Floating World, and an installation of large format landscape photographs, entitled Fee Simple, a meditation on the ownership of real property and art.

Gallery Katzenellenbogen is committed to providing a fresh look at the objects we live with, and our relationship to possession - of art and of ourselves.
